Laminate Flooring
Laminate flooring is made up of 3 or 4 layers. A durable wear layer on top which provides strength and protection from the everyday traffic in a busy home, an image layer which gives the floor its visual look which is usually a wood-like look (but not always), a core layer that is usually made up of a MDF ( Medium density fiberboard) or HDF (High density fiberboard) and sometimes an attached padding. These layers are compressed together using pressure and heat to make a rigid product that will stand the test of time.
Care & Maintenance
Laminate Flooring
- First order of business is to get felt sliders for your furniture. Placing furniture on felt sliders helps to protect the new flooring from being scratched and it also makes it easy to clean behind larger furniture as well.
- Occasionally cleaning tough stains can be done by Swiffer Wet Jet style mop. We do not recommend wet mopping as it is possible for excess water to creep over the edges and underneath the completed floor.
- Area rugs should have a soft backing to a non skid pad underneath. Area rugs with rough backing could potentially damage the flooring.
- With some laminates being sensitive to moisture, It's very important to never soak the floor. Cleaning with excess water can easily damage laminate flooring
- Most of the routine cleaning will be done with a broom and a dust mop.
- Manufacturers also do not recommend steam cleaning or any harsh chemicals.
- Further instructions and specifications can be found on your flooring manufacturer’s website.
Benefits of Laminate Flooring
Scratch & stain resistant
Laminate is in the top tier of scratch resistance flooring and will stand up to the everyday abuse of children, pets, and families.
UV Resistant
Laminate Flooring stands up to the UV rays a bit better than traditional hardwood
Recyclable
Most laminate these days is 100% Recyclable which makes it a great option for those who have the environment in mind.
Affordability
Budget friendly - Laminate is more budget friendly than hardwood but provides a realistic look and good feel under your feet with its thick core and tough wear layer.
Professional
Laminate Flooring
Traditional Laminate has always been vulnerable when it comes to moisture which didn’t make it a great option for kitchens and bathrooms. However, there is new technology which makes the top layer of the laminate extremely water resistant and therefore it can be installed in any room in a home. We still lean more towards vinyl plank in areas such as kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms.
